Victoria Primary School is a vibrant city school accommodating 345 full-time pupils and 26 part-time nursery pupils in The Meadows area of Nottingham.
It opened in September 2016 replacing Riverside Primary School but occupying the same buildings which were originally built circa 1963.
Although the current fire alarm system has been regularly maintained and met the category requirement specified in the fire risk assessment, its age was causing inefficiencies in maintenance and testing procedures that are required by law. In order to ensuring safety of pupils, teachers and visitors, the school places a heavy focus on compliance and health and safety and it was considered it would be safer and more effective to install a new fire alarm system on a like for like basis.
The site comprises 15 classrooms, a sports hall and food hall. The fire alarm system installed included a fire alarm system and control panel manufactured by Global Fire Equipment. This system is a 4-loop addressable type known as the ‘OCTO+ 4 Loop Control Panel’.

The install was completed during the summer holidays whilst the school was closed and within the set timeframe to ensure fire protection was restored as quickly as possible.
The overarching benefit is that the school has greater confidence that by installing the latest technology the pupils, teachers and any visitors on site will be alerted quickly in the event of a fire and will be able evacuate the building safely. In addition, by zoning areas on the fire alarm control panel the area affected by fire can be identified and resources focused to limit the potential of the fire spreading to other areas.
The testing of the fire alarm system and call points can also be done more quickly, which saves time. Those holding responsibility for fire safety have greater reassurance that the system is reliable and compliant with fire safety legislation.
