Sedgebrook Hall

Sedgebrook Hall | Tecserv UK

Nestled in 13 acres of peaceful countryside, Sedgebrook Hall is a stunning country house hotel located in the village of Chapel Brampton, just five miles from Northampton. The venue combines modern amenities with historic charm, offering guests a relaxing stay with access to leisure facilities including a gym, indoor pool, tennis court and restaurant.

As part of Compass Group UK’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the safety and comfort of its guests and staff, Sedgebrook Hall required an upgraded fire detection system that could provide comprehensive protection throughout the premises — including guest rooms, leisure facilities and function areas — without disrupting the building’s operation.

The Challenge

Sedgebrook Hall’s size, layout and mix of modern extensions with original country house features presented a number of challenges for fire system design.

The existing fire alarm infrastructure required full replacement to meet British Standard BS5839-1:2017 Category L1, ensuring maximum life safety coverage across all areas of the hotel.

To achieve this, Tecserv needed to design a system that could provide reliable detection in all accessible and concealed spaces — including ceiling voids and guest rooms — while minimising disruption to guests and staff during installation. The hotel’s day-to-day operations meant that a wireless solution would be the most practical and least intrusive approach.

The Solution

Tecserv UK designed, supplied, installed and commissioned a new wireless analogue addressable fire alarm system utilising the EMS FireCell platform.

The system provides full L1 coverage, with optical smoke detectors, heat detectors, sounders and visual alarm devices installed throughout the building — including bedrooms, common areas, and leisure facilities. In addition, a number of loop interface units were included to integrate with other safety and building management systems.

Where necessary, Tecserv engineers ensured additional fire detection was provided in ceiling voids greater than 800mm, in line with the relevant standards. Combined sounder/visual alarm devices were installed in accessible bedrooms, toilets and changing facilities to meet Equality Act compliance requirements.

Once the new system was fully commissioned, Tecserv also managed the safe removal of the existing fire alarm equipment, leaving all redundant devices securely boxed for on-site disposal.

The Outcome

The installation of the EMS FireCell system has provided Sedgebrook Hall with a state-of-the-art, fully addressable wireless fire detection solution designed to offer the highest level of life safety protection with minimal impact on the guest experience.

The wireless configuration significantly reduced installation time and avoided the need for intrusive cabling within the historic parts of the building. As a result, the project was delivered efficiently, safely, and with minimal disruption to hotel operations.

With Tecserv UK’s continued maintenance support, Sedgebrook Hall now benefits from a robust and future-proof fire detection system that provides peace of mind for both management and guests alike.
