Chopstix, one of the UK’s fastest-growing quick-service restaurant chains, continued its rapid expansion with the launch of a new store at the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in York. The new restaurant brought 20 new jobs to the centre and became the brand’s tenth store opening of 2025.
To ensure the highest standards of fire safety for staff and customers, Chopstix appointed Tecserv UK to design, supply, install and commission a new fire alarm system, as well as provide ongoing maintenance support.
As part of the restaurant’s fit-out within an active shopping centre, Tecserv needed to deliver a fire detection and alarm solution that complied with British Standard BS5839-1:2017 L1, while also integrating seamlessly with the landlord’s site-wide fire alarm system.
The installation had to be carried out within tight project timescales to support Chopstix’s launch schedule, all while coordinating with other contractors working on kitchen installations, building works, and restaurant fit-out activities.
Tecserv UK designed and installed an addressable Advanced MX5 Pro fire alarm system, utilising Apollo fire detection technology. The system was configured to deliver comprehensive fire coverage across all areas of the restaurant, including kitchen zones where fire risk was highest.
To ensure full integration and operational reliability, the system included four interface modules for:
An enabling visit was carried out to safely disconnect the previous system and isolate it from the landlord’s fire network prior to installation. Following commissioning, Tecserv conducted audibility and system compliance testing to ensure performance met required safety and accessibility standards.
As part of its ongoing partnership with Chopstix, Tecserv UK will provide twice-yearly fire alarm maintenance visits to ensure continued reliability and compliance with fire safety regulations.
The new system ensures the Chopstix McArthurGlen York restaurant is fully protected by a modern, addressable fire alarm network that provides early warning detection, efficient system integration, and straightforward ongoing management.
Tecserv’s proactive approach and close coordination with the wider project team helped Chopstix open on schedule, ensuring all safety systems were in place ahead of the grand opening.
Please note Tecserv UK only operate within the United Kingdom – any work outside of this region cannot be considered.
