The Challenge
Tecserv UK was given the brief for the project in May 2017, and once the approval to proceed was granted in July, the project to install the temporary accommodation had to be completed within a very tight timescale. This was because the buildings had to be ready to open in time for the new school year which began in Leicester at the end of August 2017.
Tecserv UK was appointed to install fire safety and security systems within the Portakabin buildings at six schools. These schools had been identified as being in immediate need of classrooms in order to meet the demands for school places in the new academic year.
The Solution
Working across six school sites, the project involved the installation of Gent fire alarm systems, Paxton Net2 access control systems, Castle intruder alarms and Hikvision CCTV systems at the following schools: Babbington Community College, Crown Hills, City of Leicester, Soar Valley Rushey Mead Academy and Judgemeadow.
The buildings comprised 45 standard classrooms, nine science classrooms, three design and technology classrooms, an expressive arts studio, an art studio, multi-use spaces, toilets, changing rooms and showers, staff rooms and dining rooms.
The tight timescale meant that there were a number of challenges that only came to light as the project progressed. The Tecserv installation team liaised very closely with the Portakabin project team and other contractors to ensure all works were co-ordinated and scheduled efficiently to meet the project deadline.
