Commercial Kitchen Fire Suppression System installed for Berry Bros. & Rudd

A further review of fire safety risk by Britain’s oldest wine and spirit merchant has led to the installation of commercial kitchen fire suppression systems.

Berry Bros& Rudd is a 300-year-old company that has traded from the same building in London since 1698. The company’s building at No.2 St James’s Street has recently undergone extensive refurbishment works which included the expansion of the cellar in order to host wine schools, wine tastings, corporate entertaining and bespoke events. As part of these works a new commercial kitchen was also installed to enable in-house catering for these events and functions.

Having visited the site to carry out a survey, Tecserv Technical Sales Engineer Alan Buckby recommended the installation of an ANSUL® R-102 Restaurant Fire Suppression system for the commercial kitchen and other in-house kitchens.

Commenting, Alan said, “The addition of the kitchen and the provision of in-house catering facilities increased the risk of potential fire from using cooking in fat. Therefore, the installation of a commercial fire suppression system was the logical solution to protect the building and ensure compliance with fire regulations.”

The ANSUL® R-102 Restaurant Fire Suppression System is an automatic, pre-engineered, fire suppression system designed to protect areas associated with ventilating equipment including hoods, ducts, plenums, and filters.  The system also protects auxiliary grease extraction equipment and cooking equipment such as fryers; griddles and range tops; upright, natural char- coal, or chain-type broilers; electric, lava rock, mesquite, or gas- radiant char-broilers; and woks.

The system is ideally suitable for use in restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, schools, airports, and other similar facilities where there is a commercial kitchen.

Commenting on the installation, Neil Fairclough, Berry Bros. & Rudd Management Supervisor said, “We have a prestigious building to protect therefore we take a very active approach to fire risk management. Part of this is working with Tecserv UK to ensure our systems are maintained and upgraded as required. The addition of a new commercial kitchen had altered this risk profile and therefore we needed a solution. As always, Tecserv UK provided expert advice and a timely installation service.”

The installation of an ANSUL® R-102 Restaurant Fire Suppression System has helped ensure the heritage of a 300-year-old company with a colourful history of supplying wines for the Titanic, spirits to smugglers in a Prohibition-era America and sheltering Napoleon, is now better protected.
