The Government’s Building Safety Bill received Royal Assent on Thursday 28 April 2022

The Building Safety Bill nowincludes a new term “Accountable Person” to reference those who will be responsible for ensuring the necessary arrangements are in place to manage and maintain building safety risks.

According to the statements, it is intended that The Building Safety Regulator will publish guidance to help Accountable Persons understand and meet their obligations as set out in the bill.

As most will know, the persons responsible for fire safety are referenced as the “Responsible Person”. Whilst the details of how these roles may or may not align once the finer details of the Bill are published – please make no mistake about the fact that the role of the “Responsible Person” remains unchanged – it is STILL your responsibility to ensure people and buildings are protected against fire.
