The Friargate Coventry project for which Tecserv UK has supplied and installed fire and security alarm systems for a commercial office building was nominated as a finalist in two categories in the West Midlands Property Awards and went on to win the regeneration project of the year category.
The Friargate scheme is a multi million regeneration project delivering 37 acres of Grade A offices, hotels, residential and leisure space. The development will span 3,200,000 sq ft, and provide 15,000 new jobs when complete. The scheme is part of the masterplan to redevelop the area around Coventry Railway station and has been nominated in the regeneration project of the year category.
So far, Tecserv has been involved in ‘One Friargate’, a 15 storey office building which is now the offices of Coventry City Council.
The awards are organised by Insider Media, and celebrate the cream of the West Midlands property sector over the past 12 months. In total, 41 projects and firms were nominated with some landmark schemes and major names in the running for accolades.
Work on One Friargate took 100 weeks, with around 4,000 workers involved in the construction process. Seven Coventry firms and more than 320 local people – including 28 apprentices – were employed on the site. Designed by architects Allies and Morrison, One Friargate was built by Bowmer & Kirkland.
Tecserv UK Technical Sales Engineer, Cliff Cooper was involved in the project to install fire and security alarm systems. Commenting he said, “I am pleased that One Friargate has been shortlisted, and even though the quality of the fire and security systems is not part of the judging criteria in these particular awards, I am proud that Tecserv UK was trusted to work on such a landmark project. All contractors on site collaborated well together to ensure project timescales were met, so I really hope that it wins an award and all involved get to celebrate their role.”
The winners were announced at a gala awards dinner at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel on Thursday 9 November 2017.
